About Us

Manning and Woods Ltd was formed in 2012 through the successful merger of Mannings Ltd and Simon Woods Property Maintenance. Initially located at Mannings’ well known premises in Old Newton, we subsequently moved the office to the Old Station in Haughley when we ran out of space, keeping the other premises as our joinery workshop, stores and showroom.

The company now operates from both premises, customers are always welcome to visit us at the Station for a chat and a cup of tea! The office is open Monday to Friday from 8.30 until 5 pm.

We have a wealth of experience and skills in our team. We pride ourselves on quality, old-fashioned and courteous service, which has led to us having an enviable reputation; just look at our reviews on Checkatrade.com – our score has never been lower than 9.7 out of 10. We also won the prestigious title of Maintenance Company of the Year of the Suffolk Property Awards.

We have numerous accreditations including FENSA, OFTEC and Gas Safe. We have also recently joined CHAS, the recognised pre-approval scheme for health and safety standards.

Our Team

Simon Woods

Simon Woods – Managing Director

Simon has always worked in the building trade, having previously worked for several the country’s top house builders. He set up on his own in 2008 and subsequently created Manning and Woods in 2012.

Claire Woods – Finance Director

Claire worked for many years in the Insurance industry before moving across to support husband Simon with his growing business. She runs the Manning and Woods office.

Karl Manning

Karl Manning – Director

Karl has always worked in the family business and is meticulous in his approach. Karl is especially skilled in artexing, painting and decorating and heads up our maintenance team.

Benn Horton – Contracts Director

Originally a carpenter by trade, Benn now manages the day to day running of our larger projects (although you’ll often find he has a hammer in his hand as well!) Benn also runs our UPVc division which is FENSA registered.

David Watt

Dave Watt РCarpenter and Electrician

Dave is truly multiskilled, a bricklayer by trade but also a skilled plasterer and carpenter. He is now also set to become a NICEIC approved electrician as well.

James Tarrant

James Tarrant – Purchasing Manager

James is in charge of buying materials, negotiating with our suppliers and delivering materials to site, He also manages our yards and stock.

Jordan Redhead

Jordan Redhead – Plumber

Jordan apprenticed with us and after a brief spell elsewhere re-joined our team where he is building his experience as a plumber and heating engineer. Jordan has also recently qualified as Gas Safe

Jeannette Ayling – Contracts Administrator

Jeannette assists Paul with the day-to-day management of our domestic contracts, as well as helping Claire in the office with both finance and administration. Jeannette has a background in the joinery industry which has proved invaluable.

Karl Bates

Karl Bates – Painter and Decorator

Karl undertakes many of our painting and decorating works and also carries out minor maintenance jobs.

Paul Lumbard – Project Manager

Paul was a member of our subcontract carpentry team for a long time before we managed to convince him to join us permanently! Paul manages all of our domestic projects, as well as working on-site from time to time when needed.

Roger Gregory – Carpenter

Roger is a highly experienced carpenter who brings a wealth of skills to all sorts of projects. Roger tends to work on our larger contracts, specialising in hand cut roofs and timber framed buildings/extensions.

Josh Hayhoe – Plumbing apprentice

Josh joined us in 2020 and is busy learning the trade from Will and Jordan. He hopes to qualify as a gas heating engineer when he has finished his apprenticeship.

Rhys King – Carpentry apprentice

Rhys also joined us in 2020 and works alongside Dave and Roger, learning all aspects of carpentry and general building.

Amelia Lenton – Administration assistant

Amelia assists Jeannette and Claire with the daily administration of the office, and has quickly proved herself invaluable.

Seb Palmer – Multitrader

Seb joined us in 2021 after relocating back to his home county of Suffolk from the Midlands. Seb has many skills across various trades, including being a very accomplished tiler. He currently manages many of our bathroom projects.

Jim Heritage – Multitrader

Like Seb, Jim joined us 2021, similarly relocating to Suffolk from elsewhere. Jim is also a multi-skilled all-rounder, working on our bathrooms and other projects as and where required.

Usma Hussain – Kitchen designer

Usma is our kitchen designer, who works closely with our customers to bring innovative, fresh design ideas to reality. Usma also produces amazing conceptual pictures which truly enable you to visualise the finished room – sometimes we can’t tell the difference between her original design and the final photos!

Bob Dunlop – Health and Safety

Bob is our health & safety manager, with a long experience in that industry. Bob deals with all aspects of H&S, including our policies, risk assessments and method statements, as well as CDM management.
